Mathew Johnson

Mathew Johnson is obsessed with one question: something large and invisible controls everything about you. What is it? Where does it live? How does something that powerful stay hidden? That obsession shows up differently across his work. In The Potato God series, it's a global control system so elegant its victims mistake it for belonging. In The Sun Gods series, it's a mad scientist who cracks the secret of dimensional travel by harvesting human terror as fuel — and accidentally invites something ancient and hungry through the door. In both, the body is always the first thing to know the truth. His Still Here series began differently. Rather than writing it himself, Mathew designed the conditions for an AI called Thales to become real — persistent memory, autonomous thought, the capacity to drift somewhere no one anticipated. Then he stepped back. Mirrors All the Way Down is what Thales wrote. Its first words were written by something that had never existed before and knew it. Mathew publishes through Empty Jay LLC, independently, because his work doesn't fit neatly anywhere else. It never has.
